Default Bonding

We have had our hedgie (4mths old) a little over a week. I wanted to make sure we are doing the right things to promote bonding with him. Each night we take him out for a bit and he either sits on our lap or walks around a bit. This is sometimes with me, sometimes my husband, and sometimes my son but usually all 3 of us are around and talking to him. Sometimes we put some kibble out for him to eat at this time and sometimes meal worms. We also give a little bath sometimes if his feet are dirty from wheel poop. He does let us pet him eventually but sometimes he hisses a bit first. He usually does best for my husband. What else should we be doing to bond?

I like to encourage setting a specific treat aside only for bonding time. With Christina, I use worms as they’re her favorite. It gets her excited to come out because she knows she gets a yummy treat. I also keep a radio on softly in the room when I’m not home so she can desensitize to sounds!

Putting something like old socks balled up with each of your scents and rotating them weekly, they act as 3 new ball toys but also keeps him used to all 3 of your scents, this can help especially if you a miss day for whatever reason.

Your pretty much doing everything else, learn your hedgehog and what they like and adapt bonding to them. Everyone does bonding differently.
