Default Winter!!??

It's winter here and it sucks. I've never had a hedgehog before. Its 4-6C every night. I LITERALLY LEFT THE SPACE HEATER ON ALL NIGHT, this morning it said it was 20C in the room??? Lily(hedgehog) hibernated 2 days ago and I had to keep her against my body for 30 minutes, I don't want that to happen everyday! I put 2 blankets on her cage to see if that will help but won't it mess up her day and night routine? I ordered a thermostat online, but its arriving in four weeks because of shipping. Please help!! what can I do to keep her warm?

What type of cage do you have?? This will help us to tell you what you can do to keep it warmer.

Like a vivarium ?? Its the only wood cage I know.
If you get a 100 -150w che (ceramic heat emitter) bulb and holder screw it to the top in the middle, with a cage screwed in too (protects you and and the hog) and a thermostat to control the temp it wont get lower than whatever temp you set and if it does it will come on by itself. Vivariums hold their heat really well.

By type of cage, we are looking at whether or not the sides are solid or wired or some of each; the top, is it wired or glass or what? A photo would be most helpful.

Also, why not go to a petstore or reptile store and pickup a thermostat and heat emitter? That way you can use it right away and not wait 4 weeks.

Reptile City (in Johannesburg) carries thermostats.

Until you are able to use the CHE, I would suggest covering the top of the cage at nighttime - at least the back half - as the window could let quite a bit of cold in.

Animal Kingdom should also sell thermostats since they have reptile supplies.

I thought places like, builders warehouse would had them, I ordered one on Amazon. I am currently covering the cage with two wool blankets, there are lights in those dome things u would place CHE, with a timer that turns them on at 6h00am and off at 8h00pm. When the thermostat arrives I'm gonna be using a space heater with it (does not atmit any light). Won't the space heater be better?

No because a space heater will heat the whole room and may not heat the cage, to ensure the cage is getting the heat you'll want a che set up on the cage, so for your cage you'd want a dome, bulb and thermostat.

This is my setup. I have two lights that turn on at 6h00am and off at 8h00pm. I have two blankets on the cage on top of each other. I have moved it i BIT farther from the window. Where do I put the CHE bulb? The cage is 76cm high and 110cm wide(by the way.... I blocked off the third floor and she has NEVER fell of the second, so don't worry). Will the CHE bulb even reach Lily (hedgehog)? I'll figure out something, just tell me how far away it should be from Lily.
