Default Cleaning supplies...

Is it ok to use Clorox wipes to wipe down the bottom of the cage and wheel before I put new bedding down? If not what shall I use?
Thanks in advance! 🙂

I use vinegar water to clean anything that Christina can come in direct contact with. Usually the only things I use Clorox wipes for (because yes I do) is the litter tray when changing litter and the underneath of her house, under the fleece. Sometimes I just use a watery sponge to quickly wipe wheels down!

Absolutely do not use clorax wipes or any other household cleaner to clean your hedgehogs cage. They can leave behind residues, that can be potentially harmful to your pet.

You can either use a pet-safe cleaner or disinfectant; I rotate between Savic spray (this stuff) which I use every time I clean her wheel, and F10 which is a veterinary-grade disinfectant and more "hard-hitting" than a general cleaner. You don't want to do this every cage clean though; because you want your animal to have a healthy immune system. I usually hit the cage with something like F10 once a month, or every 6 weeks.

Otherwise you can just use something like a homemade vinegar solution; 50% white vinegar, 50% water. eta; the vinegar smell disappears pretty quickly, because it's a fairly diluted solution. You further spray down the surface with plain water and wipe it down afterwards too, and the lingering smell is pretty much next to non-existent.

Definitely judge for yourself what is safe for your hedgehog. Even a bit lower of a vinegar to water ratio will still clean well without as strong of a smell.

As far as I know, it is safe to use baby wipes (no scent). I use them for doing a quick wipe out of the wheel each morning.

I agree! I’ve used many a baby wipe in the past... many are already unscented but check for sure. They’re also usually hypoallergenic which is nice
