Default How long do pet hedgehogs typically live?

Hello, I was wondering how long do hedgehogs live? I've seen between 3-5 or 4-8 and I'm getting a bit worried as my baby is turning 4 yrs May 8th this year. I feel like hes been walking kind of weird, like not the usual. I also noticed he has lost a ton of weight like he use to be on the chubby side now he's a lot smaller I'm not sure if this is because of old age or if I should take him to the vet?

They generally live to 5-7 years though I know of some who have lived to 10 years old.

If your worried about him loosing weight and that hes walking kinda off the best thing you can do is go to a vet and just get everything checked. It could well he just old age, but it could also be something like a fixable illness.

When you take him to the vet ask them to look at his teeth. He may have something as simple as a bad tooth keeping him from eating as much as normal.

I like to say 4 years is considered “retirement” age haha. It would definitely be beneficial for him to have a vet checkup since you’ve noticed this pretty recently it sounds like. And honestly, even if nothing was wrong, it would still be a good idea to get a vet checkup now that he’s more on the elder side!
