Default Urgent!

My hedge hog got lost in my house and it took me a little over a week to finally find his little sneaky butt! I cleaned his cage and he is drinking well and all. I left him in the care of my little sister while I went to work and told her to watch him closely because I wanted to make sure his actions were normal. Well, she didn’t know any better and she cut him some grapes up. I told her to feed him cat food, well she thought wet cat food would be alright. I know grapes are toxic and freaked when I got home last night, she told me that it didn’t look like he ate any of them. ( I pray to God he didn’t) and this morning he is either throwing up or has diarrhea. I watched him poop and it’s solid so I’m leaning towards that the brown watery stuff might be throw up from the wet cat food? I’m so scared. This has been a nightmare the whole thing. Like I said she claimed that he didn’t eat the grapes, but could the sudden wet cat food be causing this? Iv never given him wet cat food before. I’m so nervous y’all. Do I need to take off today and take him to the vet? I don’t want to lose my baby again for good this time.

I’d say bring him to the vet. It’s hard to tell what’s causing his upset tummy, so it’s better to be safe than sorry.

*I don’t have tons of experience so I’m just making a recommendation

Do you know what the ingredients are in the wet cat foot ??

I know someone who fed their hedgehog grapes and he actually ate them he had like 3, and then she read later that day that grapes are toxic to them, and she freaked out !!
Anyway he actually turned out fine, she kept a really close eye on him, he did throw up later that night, she said it looked like he threw up most of the grapes. He was stil taken to a vet to check everything was okay !!

Its possible its mixture of both, I'd monitor him, that hes eating fine, drinking fine, still be really active. It would defiantly be worth while to take him to the vet ans just get him checked that he's okay.

Hey there! The vomit and or diarrhea could have been caused by stress of the week and sudden switch of food. It would actually be a good thing if he threw up cause that would have gotten rid of any grapes he might have eaten. If he’s acting alright then don’t worry about the grapes. Toxicity usually shows signs quickly. Just make sure he’s drinking water we’ll, and if you use a water bottle, I’d suggest swapping it with a dish to give him easier access at least for a little while.
I would also focus on how he got out in the first place. A week is a LONG time for him to be missing. I’m so glad you found him and he’s eating, but if he hadn’t eaten or drank for a week, he might have problems not physically seen. I highly suggest taking him to a small mammal/exotic vet for a general wellness check. Keep his diet consistent with what you’ve been feeding him, and just keep an eye on him. Figure out how he got out of his enclosure and make the needed modifications!
Hope this helps 🙂

Thank you all! I did end up taking off and he’s going to be fine. What happened was, my fianc้ moved his cage and on the side are these blue circles that lock the top of the cage onto the bottom, well one popped off, and I guess he didn’t notice. And he squeezed out of there. I had nooooo idea he could fit through something so small. It made my stomach drop that’s for sure. But I done upgraded his cage big time he now has 3x more room to roam around and I got him a new wheel, I felt really guilty that he wanted to run away 😞. Thank y’all so much once again.
