Default New Hedge Owner- Concerned about essential oils

We just got a hedgie in December & he will be 4 months old at the end of this month. I just recently started to use Young Living essential oils in diffusers around our home. I know Tea tree oil is toxic to hedgehogs, are there any others we should stay away from? If it’s a blend with Tea tree in it, is that bad also? Any help would be great! Thanks!

Hey there! I would definitely just stay away from the tree completely, as hedgehogs are extremely sensitive animals to begin with. If you are diffusing in the room your little guy lives in, I would say to place it as far away from their house as possible, and to keep the room well ventilated! I’ve not personally heard of any other oils that are toxic, but we’ll definitely wait for other opinions so we know for sure!
Hope this helps 🙂

I believe other oils are fine and its just tea tree oil, but some hedgehogs do react to other oils even though not toxic. If what your using is tea tree oil based then dont use in the room your hog stays in, dont have it on you when you to your hedgehog and dont take them outside that room.
When using others do as Aj.t said.

All essential oils can cause seizures and sickness in some cats and dogs so I would be careful to keep them as far away from hedgehog as possible. I really wanted a diffuser but wound up not getting one because I was worried about contaminating. Definitely no tea tree blends.

I like to use a diffuser with Essential Oils too. I found this website https://www.heartfelthedgehogs.com/y...ssential-oils/ that has some of the oils that are safe, but DO NOT use tea tree oil as it’s toxic to hedgies. Also, don’t use the regular amount of drops (I only ever do about 2 or 3). Hopefully this helped!

Good luck!!!
