Default Messy hedgehog

Hey so I've had my hedgehog for a little over a week, and the last couple of days she's has been smearing its poop all over the place, mostly where she sleeps. She has a litter box but she doesn't use it that much. This of course is making her and the cage smell extremely bad but I don't know how often I should give her baths because I don't want to make her skin dry. Of course I always clean up the mess, but does this happen often? I haven't changed her diet or anything since I've gotten her either. Could it just be the stress of settling into a new environment or is this normal for some hedgehogs?

Also, I just tried giving her a foot bath. (Of course she didn't let me anywhere near her nails so I still haven't been able to cut them) Anyways she still smells kind of bad. Mostly all I could do was let her walk around a bit and I used a new toothbrush to try and clean some of the poop on her quills.

I'm a new hedgehog owner, and my boy did the same thing for the first week or 2. I think it might be the stress of settling in, cause he has gotten a little more neat now. I'm not an expert, I just experienced this aswell.

The first 2 weeks I had Holly she would roll in her poo, in her litter.
I just left her be and bathed her when she stopped. After two weeks If she had carried on I would have looked for adivice.

Your comment on not knowing how often to give baths once a month is best, unless its absolutly neccicary before that.

My hedgie is still quite messy and ive had him for more than a year, at the start he was definitely just stressed and just ran around his cage and made a big mess for the first few weeks. It will get better over time, he doesn't use a litter try as I could never get him to use it. He mostly does his business now on his wheel while hes running, its still quite messy but it keeps it all in one place I guess.
