Default Is this normal?

Hello! So a new hedgie mummy here! I've wanted a hedgehog for over a year so I've been doing so much research, I know baby hedgies sleep a lot! But I just wanted to check if this was normal.

So my hedgie is 7 weeks and 2 days old, I've had him for three days and two nights currently and both nights have been different drastically. On the first day he would wake up to eat and drink during the day but go back to sleep, he was fully awake at half 7pm so I took him out for a bit of bonding before putting him back in his cage. He fell asleep, woke up for a bit, fell back asleep and was up again at 3am on his wheel for quite a bit.

However, yesterday he slept a lot during the day and got up at 8pm. I took him out for bonding again before putting him back in which he slept, woke up to go on his wheel again but fell back asleep until 4am and then was already asleep at 8am. He didn't eat as much as he did the first day we had him but he'll eat out of my hand.

Today, he seems to be repeating yesterday where he'll sleep all day but hasn't come out to eat food like he did in the first day I had him. Is this normal for babies to fluctuate what they do and when they wake up etc? I might just be paranoid 😂 I'll add he isn't attempting hibernation? His tummy is warm and heating is fine

Thanks for any and all help ^~^

I believe this is normal behavior, but if you are really worried, you should take it to the vet.
Piper and I say hi!

sounds like the first day you had him, he was getting used to his new surroundings, so he was awake more often because of that maybe. Since he’s starting to repeat the more nocturnal of the two days, I wouldn’t worry. If a month passes and there’s still wild fluctuations, then I do t know, but right now just seems like he’s settling in.

Hello and welcome

Do you have a lighting schedule set up? This will help him get into a nocturnal routine. Hedgies require around 12hrs of light (natural daylight is not enough, please use artificial light like a lamp and set it on a timer, to turn on and off at the same time each day/night) and 12hrs of complete darkness. If there is any light on at night this could be causing him not to wake up/be active. This is also why CHE heaters are used so there is no light emitted in their cage at night time. What is the temp inside his cage? What heating set up are you using?

Hi, we just got 2 (brothers) a few weeks ago and one (Ash) was the runt of the litter. I believe there close to the same age as yours. Yours acts and sounds pretty much like our little boy Ash. His brother (Piper) was bigger and he was active from the 1st day and now he runs around his house and wheel all night long. Little Ash grew quite a bit in the last 2 weeks, Wow. He's as big as his brother now and is still not as active, but he loves to eat out of my hand and his dish. I wouldn't worry too much, I think your little guy will come around. I think he's adjusting to his new home. Our boys seem to be quilling now, so check out to see if your guy has them laying around. This website and others have a lot of good information about that and anything you need to know about our Hedgy's. Let us know how it goes. Good luck.
