Default water dish vs. bottle

I just brought my new baby home! I have a water bowl for her to use, but her breeder was using a bottle. Should I go get her one or will she be able to figure out the dish quickly?

I have heard/ read that water botles are very dangerous. Not only is it at a funny angle for their necks and could cause damage over time, tongues have been cought/cut. I'm sure it will be able to figure out the water bowl, I know mine loves to explore and must know where/what evreything is. Just keep an eye on your hedgie to make sure.

My breeder likes water bottles, but I don't care for them at all. Couldn't find a good one right off, but there are videos on YouTube where you can see how awkward water bottles are for hedgehogs. The risks are sometimes overstated, but they do exist and can be eliminated. Just the awkwardness is enough for me to eschew water bottles.

The water feeder might be good for you, but keep in mind that they should be cleaned and refilled very regularly. Hedgehogs do not drink large amounts of water so you should be careful to maintain fresh, clean water and a clean, safe feeder. (Also true for the water bottles.)

We use short-sided, 5" diameter crème brûlée dishes for food and water. He probably wouldn't flip them, but you'd have to see if walking through them would be an issue. Our girl does not walk through them, so no problem for us. It gets washed every day anyway when it is refreshed, so always super clean.

My breeder provided both a bottle and a bowl for her litters and she told me he never got the hang of a bottle while his siblings did. So it just depends on the hog, like so many things seem to do. I have a small animal bowl with a hood so he can't walk in it. He had a larger creme brulee dish at first but he would get in it. The smaller one with the hood solved that quickly.
This is what I have but I paid $2 a piece at Tuesday Morning...http://compare.ebay.com/like/1109539933 ... y&bigimg=y

I'm not sure she is drinking from the dish. She did eat though, and has pooped plenty. Most of her poop was normal, but some of it was really dry. Does that mean she's not drinking?

The fleece by her poop was damp though. I don't know if the poop would do that or if it is pee.

I would put a bowl and a bottle in. Most of them will instinctually drink from the bowl, but they may not know what it's for and ignore it. Just put the bowl under the water bottle and they should put two and two together.
