Default Hedgehoog poops every time I take him out

He's coming up on 3 months old and I'm trying to take him out frequently to bond but every time I do without fail he'll poop within 5 minutes usually followed by a pee. Is there a way to prevent this so I can keep him out for longer periods?

Try waking him up first, letting him run around his cage or on his wheel so he poops and pees then bond with him after that.

Also gives you the opportunity to clean some of the poop out before his big night of wheel running, cat food scarfing and pooping everywhere.

My boy is the same way so I let him run around on a pee pad for a bit before holding him until he finishes his business.

What I've started doing with my boy and had great success with is waking him up and offering him his wet food first, once he's had enough I take him out of his cage, hold him for 5mins or so and weigh him quickly, then I take out his litter tray from his cage, put it on my lap and lower him on it and 9/10 times he'll adopt the squat position and do his business almost instantly!
~ I started doing this because he was having green stools so I wanted to monitor it on a nightly basis but now Ive just continued to do it as I can quickly clean up the mess and means his wheel and litter tray aren't so dirty the following morning (plus we don't have any accidents whilst out for bonding!). Of course his wheel still needs cleaning every morning, he's a little poop running machine on his wheel haha
