Default Socializing with young hedgehog

Hello everyone

I just brought a 6 week old hedgehog home. Her name is Rosy, dark grey Algerian.

She seems to be adjusting but I have two questions.

One: she seems to sleep nearly all day and comes out for spurts at night. How much then should I be socializing with her? Should I wake her up during the day and bring her out?

I woke her up today for some TV time, but she was pretty peeved the entire time she was out.

Two: I've noticed her losing a few quills here and there. Nothing major but there were probably 4-5 in her sleeping box and 1-2 laying around the cage. Normal considering she's under stress and still young?

Thanks and look forward to frequenting this forum more often!

Hedgehogs are nocturnal so they sleep pretty much straight through the day. Most start stirring around 8-11 at night. It doesn't really matter when you take her out as long as if she wants to sleep she can. If you have a hedgie bag or a blanket she can burrow in and sleep that would be just fine. Lots of people take their hedgies out for hours just make sure that you are only stimulating her when she wants to and letting her sleep when she wants to. The minimum you should hold her is for 30 minutes everyday. She is six weeks so she is loosing her 6 week quills. Just check and make sure you see some new ones growing in. If you do her loosing quills is perfectly normal. You should check out the topic called "Times of quilling and other stuff." Hope this helps happy cuddling!
