losing lots of quills and has dry flaky skin
Hi there, I am new here and this is really my last ditch effort before spending a lot of money going to the vet. I have a female hedgehog named Nina, she is about 8 months old now and I am growing increasingly concerned. About a month or so ago, I noticed that she started to get dry skin. I assumed that was from me giving her too many baths possibly. I decided to research ways to treat that and came across many people saying that a few drops of flaxseed oil should help. I took the advice and started using a little on her with no results. I discontinued as I saw no sign of change. As time went on, Nina has become increasingly skittish and puffs at nearly every movement. She has also started to lose a large amount of quills(around 5-10) every two days or so. I read on another thread that the cause for this may be mites. I treated her with revolution for that so I am assuming that is not the case. If anybody needs any more details id be happy to give them. I just really love her and hate feeling that she is uncomfortable and unhappy and I'm sure have dry skin and losing all your quills cant be pleasant. Please help! Thank you :)

It's possible she has either a bacterial or fungal infection. Your best bet is to make a vet appointment especially if she's getting skittish. Ask the vet to do a skin scrape and a culture and sensitivity test for bacterial infections.
