Default Question About Being Sick

So I have viral bronchitis. Nothing for that really, do I avoid my hog until I'm better? Or can I take her out? It takes a while not to be contagious so I don't want to avoid my hog for a week or two obviously.

Also, since I don't want to make a bunch of threads:

I bought the large bag of cat food for my hog and don't want it to go bad. What do you guys use to store cat food?

It's the Fromm Game Bird Recipe Cat food.

I don't think it really matters if you are sick you can still hold her and stuff just wash your hands before petting her maybe. And for storage of food idk I just keep mine in the bag it came it and clip it closed with a clip.

I wear surgical masks when I'm sick but I live in Asia and its a really normal thing to do here when you're sick as to not to spread illnesses to others and for allergies, prevention etc. I've worn one around my hog when I've been sick before (maybe a bit over the top haha!) but if it's contagious and you're worried, and you have him out on you, maybe you could try it ^^. Can maybe pick some up from a drugstore or hardware store (dust masks).

Illnesses typically aren't transferable, so you should be fine.

For cat food storage, I put most of the food in gallon freezer ziplock bags & put them in our deep freezer. It can keep the food from going stale for up to 6 months or so, which gives you more time to use it. I could always tell when it was starting to get stale -
once we were down to the last bit of the bags, Lily would typically start to eat a bit less each day until I got the hint. Once I got new bags, she'd bounce back to normal!

Otherwise keep it in an airtight container - human food storage containers, dog food storage containers, etc. I used a 5 gallon bucket from the hardware store for my dog's food, but that's probably overkill for a hedgie!

I found a little dog food storage container at Home Goods to store Hazel's food. It's airtight, and seems to keep the food fresh. Also, buying smaller bags (if you can) helps!

I like Lilysmommy's idea about the deep freezer! We're planning on buying one soon, (the one with our refrigerator is tiny and barely enough room for our food) so I may start doing that as well!

Wish a deep freezer was an option. My place is so tiny

I'll have to get a storage container. I do buy the smallest bag available, it lasts exactly one month. Maybe I'll store a week's worth in the container and freeze the rest. What do you guys think?

Thanks for the responses btw!

That should work fine! You should also be okay if you want to just keep it all in an airtight storage container. If you're concerned about it still going stale in that month due to opening the container repeatedly, you can use two - one bigger one for most of the food, and a smaller one that you refill weekly out of the main container. That way you're not opening it as often. But you shouldn't have to worry too much about it going stale if you use it in a month.
