Default Few more hedgehog questions :<

I'm so sorry to keep bothering you guys -

Today Mozart's cage got a bit cold. I don't know why, I have the temp set correctly. Anyways, it's fine now, but when I pulled him out, he didn't huff (VERY strange), and he remained perfectly still for a good 20 seconds (also really strange). He seems to be moving very slow at the moment, too. The center of his cage was around 80 (I have no idea why the temperature is acting so strange. The first week it kept at an even 76 all the time).

He's starting to get a bit more huffy, but he still seems really slow. he's letting me pet him. Should I rush him to the vet tomorrow, or are they sometimes just a bit slow and non-responsive.

I worry a lot about my Mozart

Now he's laying on a pillow next to me, curled up, letting me pet away.

How are you regulating the temperature in his cage?

If I were you, I would warm him up by putting him under your shirt or something. Even if he doesn't have a cold tummy I'd just make sure he isn't attempting hibernation.

Have you changed anything? Food? Schedule? Is he drinking water? How does his pee/poo look?

His tummy isn't cold. I use a zilla temp controller with a 150 watt cre. Nothing changed, except his light. That changed a few days back. Last I saw his pop was fine, haven't seen pee actually.

Give him loads of snuggles. Keeping him warm will be super important for the next few days. It sounds like he was going in to the beginning stages of hibernation, possibly?

Make sure to check on the temperature in the cage every couple of hours- if you can. If he isn't presenting any super odd behavior, I would hold off on the vet. Make sure his poops are normal for the next few days, and keep an eye on his food intake also. It's not unusual for a hedgie to get sick after hibernation attempts, so look out for runny noses and/ or sneezing.

Give your lil lots of warm love. Let us know how things go!

His cage was around 80, will they try to hibernate? That seems a bit warm! I'm worried he's getting too hot... Or maybe he's just getting used to me and that's why he didn't fuss? Shdhdhshhsd I'm so worried

Welcome to hedgie parenthood, haha. Worry is totally normal. You had mentioned in your original post that the cage had gotten cold- so your hedgie could have been reacting to that temperature change. It take a little bit for them to bounce back if they chilled off.

80 is a little warm. I keep Brillo's cage around 76-78. I would turn the thermostat down just a little. You can also add a ceramic tile to the cage- this way if your hedgie gets warm they can splat out on it to cool off.

Light schedules can set off hibernation attempts. Not just temperature changes.

Regardless of the cold tummy, I say try to warm him up in case.

Mozart is odd. He will stay in his snuggle sack even if its warm. Should I not leave the sack in with him?
