Default Orion is very timid!

I understand how scared he is, since this is his first day, but he'll venture out of his igloo and the moment I make a noise or move anywhere, he'll hide into his igloo and stay there for hours. Sometimes he is sleeping, but other times I can hear him moving in there. Is this normal? I just want to make sure he is comfortable.

Yup, totally normal.
Just give him some time. And when it's time for lights out, best to at least give him the night to himself so he gets a chance to explore his new home. You'll find that if you ever walk in on him in the middle of the night, he'll freeze, then scurry back to his igloo.

Where is his cage? If your bedroom, you'll probably find that he will continue to refuse to come out until the lights are all out and you are fast asleep. That will be normal too.

It is in my bedroom so I can watch the temperature.

I put a towel over the top of his cage so that it blocks out most of the lights. I just want to be able to get the chance to try to bond with him.. I'm hoping its just a phase and he will at least let me see his pretty face.

I put in an old shirt I wore today so that he can get use to my scent.

So putting the towel over the top to block out the light worked. He instantly trotted out of his igloo and started chowing down on his food. It is so fun to just watch him. I am worried over nothing. I'm just paranoid, being a brand new hedgie mommy.
