Exclamation Hedgehog is covered in stuff that won't come off!

He escaped last night - first time in this new cage - he has a wheel and everything i guess he was just exploring.
But he managed to get into a cupboard, which had a plastic bag with some old trainers in it. The trainers were ruined from adventuring 2 years ago up a cliff.
I don't know what kind of mud/rock it is but he is covered in a dark grey substance and it wont come off!!
I'm worried he has been breathing it in etc.

What do I Do!!!!

Have you tried giving him a bath in warm water? Or even wiping him off with w wet face cloth.

For the future you need to get a lid for your cage to prevent this from ever happening again.

Its clay dust. Yes hes had a warm bath and nothing came off..

He only ever used to escape when there was no wheel in there though, there is now and so I dont know why he escaped

It doesn't matter if there is wheel in the cage. A hedgehog must have a lid on the cage because they're escape artists.

He escaped because he can. No other reason other than that.

Can you take a picture? That might be helpful. Try another bath, maybe using a very mild unscented shampoo meant for pets, babies, or even specifically hedgies.
