Arrow My Hedgie

My beloved Lana surprised me with babies earlier this week!
So glad for this site, i was able to learn what to do, and she and the babies are doing great. When i change her food she runs up to me so i can pet her nose.

So anyway, i know i will get a few people posting about how i shouldnt touch the babies yet, etc etc, I KNOW, but the liner needed to be changed, it was unhygienic and smelled awful after 6 days of neglect. Momma is a piggie.
So i snuck a fast picture of the babies and i just had to share!

The pictures are adorable. But yes, you should probably brace yourself in case she gets upset in the next couple of days from the handling of the babies and changing the liner. She may kill the babies from the changes and handling, it's hard to tell. I would PM one of the breeders like Nancy or Nikki, or see if they see the post, and see if there's alternatives to changing the liner again until the babies are weaned.

Linners are one of the worst things to use with babies lol but you can't change it till they are weaned regardless if it smells what I would do is cut another piece and put it on the half of cage is is not. And change just that side only when its real bad most moms only make a mess near food dish. So that your not. Changing the nest area.. some moms are fine with early holding some arnt so don't be nervous about it. But do not change the liner again to stressfull for the mom and can result in death of babies.

well she seems to have gotten the hint and is now only pooping in one corner. that makes it easier. i did remove the liner and gave her extra fleece to make a nest. she pulled her normal snuggle sack into her igloo and is raising them there.

so far so good on the baby rearing, she doesnt huff at me when i change her food/water. before the babies she got very upset so i take it as a good sign
