Exclamation Training Hedgies

Hi! I have a two-year-old hedgie named Willow. I bought her from a pet shop close to my house and apparently she was brought back to the place when the last owner was going to college and couldn't take care of her anymore. I've had Willow since October 24th. I was just wondering if it was possible to train your hedgehog to do tricks. I know you can train them to be potty trained in a certain place in their cage, but is there anything else? Thanks!

Potty training depends on your hedgie. I have a small litter box in the corner of Alice's cage with yesterday's news litter in it. I've been picking up her mess the last few days, but we've been trying this for 2 weeks now. Each time she gets close to it, but she hasn't figured it out yet. I'm not sure what other tricks you mean... like fetch or play dead?

I dont know if they can do tricks on command. dogs learn to do tricks becasue they have a strong desire to please there owners and i dont think hedgies are like that?

LOL, hedgehogs definitely don't have a desire to please their owners. It might be possible to teach them to push an item in a goal with their nose, but I think that would take a long time and isn't worth it.

I've been experimenting with clicker training to see if this is possible.
I know hedgehogs can be potty trained, and to come when they're called... but I don't know about other things like them learning how to turn on command, etc.

The only trick Norman knows is how to make treats disappear. He seems pretty content with just that.

it be pretty cool if someday way down the line hedgehogs could be as domesticated as cats and dogs and learn tricks.

Hahaa! This is super delayed, but I didn't mean like tricks dogs and other animals can do, I just meant training tricks (e.i. potty training). But thaaanks anyways! And all of your hedgehogs are very cute ^-^
