Default Should I try?

Hello everyone!

I have had my hedgie Sniffles for a little over 2 weeks. He is about 8 wks old and is going through the not so happy experience of getting adult quills. I see a lot of little baby quills around his cage and he seems... crusty and wants to be left alone (I still take him out every night for bonding time...since he is still so new to me).

I read that oatmeal baths can help sooth their poor sore skin. I have not attempted to bath him yet because I wanted him to be more comfy with me first. BUT... I am wondering if I should try it to help him out.

Is this something I should try and do? And if so, what exactly should I use for bathing him in the oatmeal bath?

Thanks so much for your help!

I think you could give it a try. Just get some plain, non-instant oatmeal, put a handful in a sock or something and swirl and squish it around in the water until it gets cloudy. Make sure you only have a couple of inches of water in the sink or tub, so that he doesn't have to swim. If you want, you can put down a towel or something in the water to give him better footing, so maybe he won't freak out as much. You can also put some flax seed oil or Vitamin E oil in the rinse water to help soften his skin, too.

I just gave Popple her first bath. I've not had her that long and she's going through quilling also. I used Aveno Baby Moisturizing Oatmeal Bath and then put olive oil in her final rinse. She wasn't that thrilled about it but she seemed pretty calmed when she was all done.
