Hello Summer,

We have 6 hedgehogs. We breed a couple of times of year and thus the pregnant and nursing mothers do not do this schedual and we add some protein to diet.
The rest of the crew we start at 5 am at our house and hedgehogs are just finishing up there night of wheeling and enjoy a meal worm and some individual cuddle time or running around living room in a large ball. I freshen up water containers and change paper under their wheels. We all go off to work or school. Evens around 7:30 pm we start freshing up food bowls. We use a mixture of 3 dry cat foods( see food lists on this website) and get 4 girls out for play time on floor with tubes and varies hiding places for meal worm treats. We then get boys out and they are in a seperate area similar set up of tubes and hiding places as girls. We pick each one up and give them a looks over and cuddle time. some like to be petted and some just like to be held. Some like to explore on your lap and some just cuddle up by our necks. We replace fleece liners, scrub water containers and food bowls on Saturday and Wednsdays. We give baths as needed and foot baths as needed and on Saturday we usually trim nails. Each hedgehog has a litle different personality and likes different stuff to play with and cuddle style. Hope this helps. Lisa

I was JUST about to post this same question. I've had my hedgie for two days and things have just been ....confusing? lol. So I was hoping to get some input from long-time owners. I hope there are more replies!

Her light turns off at 6:30pm and I have been waiting until 7 or 7:20 to get her out. Then she huffs and balls up for a while (first time was about 30 minutes, last night about 10 ) Then I hold her and cuddle her for a few minutes and let her play on the floor with some toys and a tube. She's not ready for treats yet, but I give her kibbles and hide them in the tube and place them around for her to find. She seems to enjoy that.

I would love to have her out forever, but so far she has been coming out to play for about an hour-2 hours at a time.I would like to hear how much play/cuddle time other owners spend with their hedgies each night. And what time they usually return them to their houses for the night.

i lost my little isabelle this yr aswell in september and i was and still am heartbroken i have her little casket with her ashes in it on the fireplace ,i then decided to get another little hoggy and got given a mum who gave birth only 2 weeks after i had her i was pre warned she may be pregnant she is called belle who had 4 babies but 2 died the remaining 2 are about 3 months old now and their personalitlies are so different and cute they have helped me so much in the grieving process xx
mum belle has been handled before so is really tame and very easy to handle then there is hiroshi the cheeky little boy who doesnt huff too much maybe a few times then he will put his quills down and thats when you can look at his beautiful blue eyes, then there is aurora she is a cutie pie but is very very huffy until i rub her tickly spot on her back then she realises its me and she puts her quills down ready to be stroked and played with
now the warm weather is here i take them into the garden and they love it
i am looking for more toys for them though i also would love 3 carolina wheels but just cant afford plus the postage is too much for me in the uk
ive got 3 flying saucer wheels at the moment and boy do they fly i didnt know their little legs could run so fast!
