Hi everyone! My name is Seri, I own a reptile specialty store and breed tortoises and geckos, but I'm fairly new to hedgehogs. Yesterday I got a pair from a lady who had bought them to breed and then decided they were too much work to clean. She got them from the local pet store in August and they were 8 weeks old at that time. They are unrelated. They have been together since they were purchased.
First question is...I immediately separated them, but how likely is it that she is pregnant since they have been together all this time? Secondly, can someone kindly help me figure out their colors/morphs? Here are some photos. They were fresh out of the bath for some of them, they were FILTHY, poor things. Here are their pictures. Quasi is the male, Qwillow is the female. Note the spot of white towards her back end in one photo. http://www.gallerygeckos.com/the-hedgehogs.html Thank you! |

I'm not sure about the coloring, but I believe 8 weeks may be too young for her to be pregnant.
However, I would not breed these two because they came from a pet store, and you do not know their lineage. They could be carriers (or develop) WHS, and pass that on to the babies.

They are 6 months now. I'm not going to breed them, I just rescued them and separated them but they have been together since they were 8 weeks old so I'm wondering if she may be pregnant because of being with the male up until now.

She could very well be pregnant. It is also possible that she's been pregnant before and had litters that were cannibalized by both hedgehogs if the male was never separated from her and that their prior owner never saw any evidence of that litter. Average gestation is 35 days, but be prepared for babies for up to 55 days after the date of separation. I would start to treat her as if she was pregnant and be happy if she doesn't have babies.

It is very likely she could be pregnant now and even possibly has been pregnant before if they had been kept together. If she has had babies before, more than likely they would have been destoryed by the male or even her before the previous lady noticed.
Keep an eye on her for 55days from when you separated them. This will be long enough to determine whether she is or isn't pregnant. In the meantime offer her some high quality kitten food like Royal Canin or Nutrience with the food she is currently eating, slowly mix it into her current food in higher quantities as to not overwhelm her stomach. Quasi is beautiful and so is Qwillow, I am glad to hear you won't be breeding them after this now separation.
