Default Bath Time!

So, I've given my hedgie a couple baths in the two months ive had him. I put him in just a tiny bit of water ( so he can comfortably stand) and then i gently brush him with a toothbrush. However, he keep trying to ball up and sticking his nose in the water. Then he stands up and starts trying to huff it out of his nose in a panic. I don't want him to hurt himself but I was wondering if this is something he'll learn to not do? Or is there a better way to bathe him?

I wonder if holding him while cupping a little water onto him back might do the trick. If he balls up, it will be in your hand so you can hold him on his back and control where the water goes. It sounds like he just isn't used to being in water so the natural defense mechanism kicks in at a bad time. You could use a little warmer water so he doesn't get too chilled and just pour a little over him. You could also have two small tubs, one with him in it with no water, and the other to scoop water out with a cup to pour a little on his back for washing/rinsing. Maybe do that until he gets used to the water and isn't as afraid anymore.

thats a good idea. i soaped him up today and then held his booty under the faucet today to rinse him off. It definitely worked better that way. On a good note, i took him to his vet and he said that Everett is 100% healthy and his skin is excellent. Good news. ^^

Good to hear! Remember to be careful with the running water as you don't want to accidentally get water that's too hot or cold on him while rinsing! Maybe using a cup scooping water from an adjacent basin might be safer. If you're cautious with the water temp, I'm sure the faucet is fine too. Soon he'll be like this hog:

Buuut I don't think I would be doing this any time soon ... can anyone say "floaties?" Aaand I don't mean the swimming kind... the backfloat is cute though.

Maybe the noise of the faucet is scaring him? Try just getting a few cups of water, at the proper temperature, and have it ready as your rinse water. He'll get used to it eventually.
