Default Picking up my hedgie at 5 weeks

I may have to go get my hedgie around 5 1/2 weeks old, due to partially the weather and the breeder I am with. Is this an acceptable time to adopt her? If I do get her at this time, what should I look out for?

5 weeks is very young...almost too young. I hope the breeder will be careful about making sure that she's eating well before letting her go to her new home...I think it'd be irresponsible if she lets her go anyway. However, if the breeder doesn't care, then it'll be up to you to monitor her carefully and make sure she's eating. I would make sure you get whatever food the breeder's giving her, but also get some Royal Canin Babycat to start mixing in with her food, in case she's having trouble crunching kibble. Wet cat food may also be useful in getting her to eat if she's reluctant or having trouble. I'm sure some of the breeders or other people will be around to offer advice soon too.

I wanted to pick her up later, but my breeder had said between 5-6 weeks, so to get her between the 6-14. The 9th is the only day I can make the 3 1/2 hour trip, but I want to make sure i do this right, I want to make sure she is going to be healthy and that I am prepared. I'm going to look into where I can buy the food you suggested, and see how it goes for the week, i will definitely be posting here if I have questions.

If you have a Petco near by then I know they carry Royal Canin in the States, not sure about in Canada though.

Royal Canin is readily available at most pet food stores and also at vet offices.
I would say that's a bit young. Any way you can pick the hedgie up like the week after or something?

I used to have Kashi on Royal Canin (the one for kittens that the breeder was feeding him). You're right about the corn, but it's accepted as one of the okay foods because it isn't the first ingredient. I would suggest that you buy a smaller bag of it, and then switch her onto other kitten foods that don't have corn in them. It's also fine in a mix, but that's also why I took my hedgie off it (because of the corn, and it's chicken meal, not whole chicken).

Whatever happens, I'm sure you'll be prepared! ^^
