Default How can I make my Hedgehog happy and healthy?

I adopted my male hedgehog, Louie, in September of 2015 from a woman who could no longer care for him. It has been my goal, since the start, to give him a happy home. For the first two months things were great as we started to get to know each other and he became more comfortable with me. He is a grumpy little guy but he's warmed up to me. Unfortunately, in the past few weeks he has discovered he can bite me and he has spent most of his time sleeping. Is there anything I should be looking for? And should I take him in for a check up? I have almost no knowledge of his care before I adopted him. He also refuses to use a wheel so I'm worried he might be bored.

Poor little guy! Nice you took him in! If you haven't already take him for a check up. Yes it may cost you $50-100 but honestly when I took my boy into my home I took him to the vet. Think about it: you buy yourself so much peace of mind. It's not very expensive when you think you can be sure he is happy and healthy. I was so worried he had something wrong with him but he didn't. It was a relief.

Make sure you are feeding him good food. Also is the temp good in the room? Should be about 23-26 C. Do you have a thermometer? Hopefully if the temperature is right he will be more active.

Some hedgies just wanna sleep! But make sure you make play time a routine thing. I do it in the evening when he's rested enough.

What kind of wheel? Also are his nails trimmed? Sometimes when nails are too long they refuse to run on the wheel. There's tons of great tips here to cut their nails, just do a quick search

Hope you have many happy years with your boy!
