Unhappy Is Heritage Pets in Erin, ON a good breeder?

So I live in Brantford, ON about a 90 minute drive from Toronto, and I'm looking into close breeders. I like the babies at Heritage Pets, but I can't find anything about them (If they're a good breeder, WHS guarantee, good personality traits). So have any of you bought a hedgehog from them or even heard anything about them, good or bad? Thanks all.

I looked at Heritage when I was looking to get my hedgie and like you, I'm not sure about their status as a breeder. They may be great, but I couldn't find anything about them. If you are willing to come to Toronto, I can recommend Hedgehog Grove. They're great with help and advice, and my hedgie and I are getting along very well. He's chilling with me right now after a post-sweet potato annointing bath.

I know right now that they are busy with their own coming attraction, but I still recommend you chat with them as an option!

I looked into Hedgehog Grove first but but because of reasons I won't post on a public forum I wasn't impressed. Connie from Heavenly Hedgehogs recommended Heritage Pets to me because they are closer than she is (Winnipeg). But all she said was they have lovely babies (colours). Colours are important to me but not as important as health.

I already replied to your PM, but I figured I'd post here for others as well.

So far my experience with Heritage has been good and no complaints on my end. Didn't really find out much information on the internet about them other than their site but I called them up and drove down to check them out.

They do have a health guarantee for a number of days (can't remember how many) but I don't recall a written statement about WHS guarantee; but, he did mention how in all the years he's bred, there hasn't been any WHS cases yet. He answered all my questions on the phone before I picked up my hedgehog and when I was there taking a look at the hedgehog. Showed me how to handle her and gave a bunch of tips and tricks here and there. Gave some warnings on not to ever give them tea tree oil and make sure they're in the right temperature. So it seems like he does genuinely care about the hedgehogs he gives out.

I've also had a few questions that I've called him up on over the last few months and he's been very helpful with providing answers.

So far I would say he is a good breeder. Only positive experiences here.

The only thing that concerns me about Heritage Pets is that they seem to have babies available for adoption all year long. I'm not sure if he's breeding to try to improve on health, etc of hedgehogs as a species, or if he's breeding for profit.

In my opinion, breeders should only be breeding, first and foremost, for themselves (to improve their lines, etc), and only rehoming those they do not "need" in their herd (doesn't mean they won't make fantastic pets).

I'd also worry if there is nothing written in the health guarantee for wobbly hedgehog syndrome. If he's never had a WHS case in his lines, then I would ask him to give you the guarantee and have him make a contract where it says he will guarantee it. It shouldn't be a problem if he's never had it in his lines.
