Default sleepy hog?

Just got my first hedgehog yesterday. Had a 5 1/2 hour drive home.. she let me pet her in the box. But as soon as I got her home and tried to pick her up with my t shirt she turned into a ball of spikes, which I suppose is normal... but I put her in her new cage with my t shirt. She has been in my tshirt in the exact same spot since I put her in there at about 12 am. I woke up this morning and she was still in the same spot asleep so I pet her back to see if shed wake up and she puffed up and stayed that way until I walked away. Now she's back asleep in the same spot. I left the house now and wont be back until tonight... so I hope giving her some alone time will help. Should I try and play with her tonight? Should I be worried that she isn't moving around? I want her to eat her food and water... so im concerned.

My baby sleeps day in and day out. She sleeps, eats, sleeps, wheels, sleeps, scratches, sleeps, ect. all night lol! You have nothing to worry about. Your hedgehog seems responsive and alert, so I wouldn't worry about hibernation at this point. I assume you got a baby from a breeder? This is normal. I've had my girl for a little over a month and a little more than 2 months since she was born, and she's still this way.

How old is she? If she's under 6 months then she's just a baby and that's the bulk of what they do. If they're not wheeling, eating or drinking, they're usually sleeping. They're also nocturnal critters so they'll usually sleep as long as there's day light. As long as it's warm enough for her and she seems alert when she's awake, this is pretty much the norm. There's no harm in taking her out in the evenings to have some socialising time. Chances are she'll just want to do snuggle in and sleep, but she'll at least be sleeping on you and will come to associate you and your scent with safety and comfort. She'll eventually grow out of it and develop new quirks and habbits that make you wonder what the heck she's doing.
