Default Injuries- Remove or disable wheel?

Didn't want to divert a recent thread ....have a question tho.

For hedgies that have a limp or injury who LOVE wheeling and throw tantrums / try to climb and generally cause chaos when wheel is removed....would it not be better to disable the wheel and leave it in then remove it completely?

Hazels wheel I am able to tighten so tight that she can not turn it so just got me wondering that might be a handy thing. Watching her at night she does spend some time simply standing in her wheel doing who knows what in her hedgie mind. Thinking on it...for HER if she ever got injured I might be prone to leaving it in but disable it so she can do her stand in it thing still and maybe just think it's stuck to avoid tantrums lol??? I think if I took it out would be much worse than not.

It depends on the hedgehog. Even disabled some hedgehogs go nuts when their wheel doesn't work, others are fine as long as it's still there. For some, tightening it so it can still turn but turns very slowly so they can only do a very slow walk works.
