Default Adopted hedgehog ?'s: Confirming proper CHE set-up & are blankets ever needed w/ CHE?

Our CHE set-up arrived today (per the specifications from this site) and everything seems to be working well. We adopted Norman and the previous owners were using a human heating pad and electric blanket, which we have now learned through this helpful site, is not the proper set-up. He came with a 17" x 28" plastic bottom, wire top enclosed cage. I have a thermometer on each opposite end of cage near the bottom and at separate places from thermostat probe, which the thermostat probe is placed near the center of top of cage, closer to the heating area. I think I have down this correctly. Lilysmom has been a great help to me. The side away from the CHE is at 72* and the side closer to the CHE and sleeping area is 76-77 currently. Is that a good range or does it need to be more even yet? Before the CHE we were using a regular animal heat lamp and layers of blankets until the CHE set-up arrived today. Is it helpful or necessary to add blankets to one side with a CHE set-up? The CHE is set right on the cage top, but attached with plastic zip ties. He sleeps in a bed made for a ferret that he came with, an open mouthed stuffed alligator, which I assume will keep him even warmer in there. He loves that and I assume that is okay to still use? Thank you for verifying set-up and any additional guidance, we really want to be sure he's all set and that we have it right for bed tonight. Thanks!

I think I might have been unclear in a previous post, but you actually want to make sure the whole cage is around the same temperature. Hedgehogs need a steady temperature, not a warm & cool side like reptiles do. If you have the CHE lamp closer to one end of the cage than the other, I would move it so it's more in the middle so it can heat the cage more evenly.

You can use blankets if you find they're necessary, they can help with holding heat in if too much is escaping & you're having trouble keeping the cage warm enough. The biggest thing is making sure they don't touch the CHE bulb or the lamp - even the lamp gets pretty hot, I had one melt a hole in a fleece blanket once.

And yup, the alligator bed is perfectly fine to use!

Thank you again, you've been very helpful. I will move closer to the center as there is a little variance on the sides and just noticed even more with cooler night temperatures thank you so much again!
