Default Questions regarding bonding (2 months owner)

So it's been 2 months now that me and Baxter have been around each other, but it still feels like he just got here. He still balls and hisses to anything and whenever I get even close to him. I've been spending 30-60 minutes per day for 2 months and it feels like it's going no where. Is there some other way of getting him to like me?

Since the past 2 months I've been having the same routine every day; pick him up, move him around my hands to reposition the pain, feel like he doesn't enjoy being held, put him down in his play area, feel like he doesn't enjoy it in there withe, place him in his snuggle bag, let him enjoy and put him back. I think part of the reason he doesn't like me is because he doesnt enjoy how I handle him and play with him, and when I think that I feel like I'm a bad father

So do you guys have anything fun you would recommend me trying with my hedgehog?

All I can say is that all hedgies are different. Some like to be handled, and some don't. It may seem like you're getting nowhere, but remember that every time you pick him up, he learns to trust you just a tiny bit more. Dont give up! Also, if you get nervous every time you pick him up, it's gonna make him nervous too. Keep up your routine, i'm sure he'll warm up to you eventually.

Rest peacefully and sweet dreams little Thalia 8/25/2012 Mommy and Daddy miss you <3

I'm alright with being patient about him choosing to like me, that was kind of a side note. I want to know what things you like to do with your hedgehog that's fun or at least different that will keep my interest, cause to be honest, my routine is getting boring and almost feels like a chore sometimes.

It kind of feels like a chore cause it is lol...well a responsibility rather. Routine is important in the bonding process as they learn to trust by becoming accustomed to you, your ways, smells, interactions, things like having the TV on, snuggling in a different area, playing on the floor... should all be introduced quietly and slowly depending on their reactions. If you have different scents on your hands a lot of the time or different detergent smells are used for your laundry those things can be part of the problem too.

My hedgie is much more comfortable in a snuggle bag being touched than just patted while she is loose. I can massage the heck out of her in the bag and she loves it...touch her out of the bag and she jabs me lol. I've had her since July and my place is Hedgie proofed...she could be loose all the time if she wanted but she is not comfortable loose, she kind of just sits there scared. She is fine in a play pen on the floor tho with her familiar steps. We have bonding time on the couch with me playing laptop games, her nom-nom snacks and insects. I'm sure I'd get bored if I sat and watched her the entire evening expecting her to entertain me. I just let her do her thing near me and when she is ready she will seek her bag and snooze in my lap. Sometimes I introduce her to new objects like the tv remote or whatever is within reach and let her explore times it is really entertaining other times she gets a bit miffed. At times I put her in a play pen near me and just keep and eye on what she is up times she will do nothing...other times explore all her stuff looking for insects. They are kind of funny little creatures to figure out their likes and dislikes.

If you have not tried insects maybe it's something you could try...or hide insects in the play area. Or live crickets in the bath tub Meal worms kinda changed the WHOLE idea my hedgie had of me lol...when I wake her now she huffs at me and partly balls but nearly immediately turns to check me out with the "GOT MEALIES?" look. Now she nearly trusts me, figures I give a good belly rub AND sees me as a good insect source.
