Default Has anyone had this problem?

My hedgie is around 3 months old.
I've just got her for one week, so I'm trying to get her used to me.
Today when I put her on a blanket on my lap, she kept scratching the blanket and also she bit the blanket and drags it with mouth.
Does anyone know if this is normal?

I wouldn't worry about that. Hedgehogs will often scratch a bedding spot before they lie down, kind of like how dogs will circle a spot before they lie down. It's just part of their routine.

The biting of the blanket could be a smell thing. They're very smell/taste oriented, and biting things with new/interesting smells is sometimes a response.

she's digging between my lap now... i hope she can just quietly sleep on my lap like other people's hedgies...

Hedgehogs are burrowing animals. Scratching & digging is normal, especially if they're trying to get comfortable, like honey said. Try covering her up with the blanket, then let her be while she scratches & digs around & see if she finds a spot to her liking. She'll probably settle down then & go to sleep.
nikki likes this.

Maybe you're right, I'll keep on observing...
I was worried because she was digging so hard and wouldn't stop for a moment... )
