Default trouble with back nails

Yesterday I gave Lenny a water bath basically to get the poop off of his feet.
Well on the back feet there is like this lil clump of poop stuck on his lil toe nail on both sides, and i kept on trying to get it off with a tooth brush and they weren't coming off.
Even the water wasn't really softening it up. What should I do?

I know it's super, super gross... But if it comes down to, use your fingers. It's nasty I know, but just think about how much more comfortable your hedgie will feel after you get rid of that-- similar to dumping a pebble from your shoe!

I was going to say the same thing.

Also, when I encounter a stubborn piece of poo, I drain the water out of the sink and gently lift up Milly's foot with one hand and scrub with a toothbrush with the other. Sometimes it helps if you can get the toothbrush under the toenail to scrub.

Also, to help Lenny's stress-level out, you could get a washcloth wet and try to wrap it around his foot to soak it that way for a while instead of doing another whole foot bath. Then you could try to use the washcloth to wipe the poo off.

Good luck!

I let the foot bath take care of as much as it can, and then I cuddle my boys in my lap and use the little nail filey thing on my nail clippers to gently scrape away anything else. The curvey thingy

thanks for the advice guys Ok i am gonna try to first pick it out with the nail flier on the end of the nail clippers, and use the wet wash cloth to try to soften it out. If all else fails, I will use my fingers to pick it out :P Hopefully this works

yeah for me if scrubbing the absolute heck out of it (as long as dexter tolerates it haha) with a toothbrush doesn't work, i use the curvy part of the nail clipper too! Luckily Dexter doesn't mind.
Good luck!! I know it's frustrating

Ok well i managed to get the poop out from under his nails,
I tried the flier and the washcloth but it really wasn't getting it all off.
The poop was harden so much I ended up having to use my fingers to pick it out XD
but he seems alot happier now. It was tough because i was alil scared of hurting him.
He actually remained calm while i got him on his back.
And all at the same time i got to clip some of those nails too

Yeah it can be really bad with Lenny. XD
I have to like get him on his back so his hands and feet stick out.
It takes some time because he constantly has a lot of energy wanting to explore my room.
When he remains completely calm on his back thats when i go in with the clippers.
I wish I had some meal worms for him tonight after the cleaning of the poo.
Can you give em wax worms as treats too?

Glad it worked out.

Your signature is adorable.

Yup, you can give waxworms as treats. I would only do them occationally, as they have a lot of fat in them. I froze mine, because I wasn't using them up quicly enough. I give my Cholla 1 wax wom maybe 2 or 3 times a week.
