Default Water bottle issue!

I'm supposed to be getting my hedgehog any day now, but I just realized that her water bottle isn't going to work! The bottom of her cage is solid plastic, about 6 inches tall, and the water bottle will be too high for her to reach. I'm going to be using carefresh, so I heard water bowls are a pain, but do I have any other option? Is there a special long neck botttle that I could find at walmart or a pet store?

A water bowl is a lot safer and healthier for your hedgehog. Bottles can break teeth and there have been hedgehogs that have ended up dehydrated or injured from bottles.

Nicky is correct. I had a friend who's hedgie actually lost an eye due to a water bottle injury (he walked right into the spout) however should you decide not to heed her warning, adhesive Velcro will suffice. Place one side of the Velcro on the bottle and match the other side to the cage. Heavy duty Velcro would work best, especially one with strong adhesive. I do reccomend that you at least try a water bowl and see how it goes. Try using both the bowl and bottle together and determine which your hedgie prefers (it will more than likely be the bowl, just saying). They do make bowls that are curved inwards so that they make it harder for derbis to get inside. But nevertheless, the "pain" of having To change the water more frequently is a small sacrifice for the health of your hedgie and, God forbid, a vet bill should anything happen!

Just an afterthought, you could also make a platform of sorts to put your food and water BOWL on to serve as a stage of sorts that will lift the bowls from the care fresh. You simply use a wooden block, or one of those plastic deals that serve as A hide underneath and ten have a little ramp/ladder to climb. Just make sure you sand the wood (splinters!) and seal it (mites!) sealing it isn't crucial but be prepared to toss it in the case of mites.however should none of this work, don't ditch the bowl, ditch the bedding and switch to fleece liners, safer, cheaper, and more hygienic to the hedgie! Ultimately what you decide is up to you. Good luck!
