Hi, I currently live in CA and need to know if there are any rescues in the area? I have 2 adult hedgies 1 male 1 female, I dont want to take them to the shelter because I have a feeling they will be put down. My work has changed and now I hardly get to pay them any attention or even see them. any advice would be helpful.

thank you

You'll need to look for the nearest rescue that's outside of California, since hedgehogs are illegal there. There probably won't be any rescues within the state, and you're right, they'd probably be put down if they went to the shelter. Check out the rescue contact list here: http://www.hedgehogwelfare.org/ and see if there's anyone around you that would be able to take them.

Hedgehogs are illegal in CA, they will probably be put down. Maybe see if there are rescues in Nevada or any other neighboring states depending on where in the state you live. Some rescues might be able to travel to get it from you, or you could take a road trip to deliver it?

If you are caring for their basic needs and just need time to adjust to your new schedule, the hedgehogs are fine without lots of human interaction. Unlike dogs and cats that crave our attention they are pretty solitary. At least you know they are safe and cared for.

Sorry to hear you are having to go through this.
Riley loves me. Much likes me. Whyte Darkness is a large, huffing, popping ball of albino white spines, but I love him anyway.

I have word that these two Tasmanian Quilled Cats are now happily ensconced in a safe house. Yay for witness protection programs!
