Default Griseofulvin for ringworm treatment? Need advice.

So I have a five month old hedgehog who is currently being tested for ringworm. The vet took a culture and it's being sent out to be sure it's ringworm. The vet said if it is positive for ringworm she will be treated with Griseofulvin. So my question to you guys is, has anyone had any previous experience with this med? Has it been good or bad? The reason i'm asking is my vet said there are serious side effects to this medicine such as anorexia or even liver failure! I've seen only a couple posts on it and it breifly mentions it. My hedgie has extremely flaky skin and is nearly bare from all the quill loss and is always grumpy.

Another thing is my hedgie had a fecal test done and now she was tested positive for giardia and is currently being treated with Ronidazole. So just curious if anyone knows about that med as well.

And yes, she is also currently undergoing treatment revolution and has her second treatment on the 7th even though her skin scrape was negetive for mites. My hedgie is such a mess and I feel so bad and I just want her to get better

Any advice would be great!

Oh God I hope all her illness go away soon, specially the giardia lambia >.< I had it once and it is pretty painful. Not sure if the giardia she has can be passed to humans, as there is also a giardia for us, so make sure you wash your hands VERY well after handling her just to be safe.

I haven't gotten any sign of giardia yet which is good. At first I thought it was in our tap water but I think it was in a wax worm I fed her....*sigh*

I've never had either giardia nor ringworm here so have zero experience with either.

Ok well her culture was just sent in to determine if it's ringworm or not but it's going to take another week or so because it still needs t o grow. So i guess we shall see.

She is doing alright. The quill loss seems to be less then what it used to be but still has been losing them. She has been doing great with her meds and has been gaining weight as opposed to losing it so i'm happy about that. Just playing the waiting game right now.

Talking Re: Griseofulvin for ringworm treatment? Need advice.

So here is an update with Kiwi's fungal infection. The lab couldn't determine the fungal spore becasue the cuture was too overgrown with bacteria. However, my vet seems to think it's Trichophyton mentagrophytes which i read on this forum was a rare form of ringworm but again it was very brief and the post was from 2009. So does anyone know or had experience with this type of fungus? I read that it's commonly found on people's pets and euro hedgies have it out in the wild. However, i have had no signs of it on myself is it possible for her to have it and for me to have no symptoms? Plz if anyone knows anything it would be appreciated.
