Default Vet questions

Now that the snow storms are gone where I live, I thought it would be a great time to bring Poppy to the vet for her first wellness check up. I have had her for about 4 months now and she is 5 months old. I know I should have brought her in sooner but I didn't feel comfortable driving in the blizzards and her being in freezing temperatures. Any advice for a first check up? What should I look out for to decide if it is a good vet?

I have scheduled an appointment for next Monday at an exotic animal clinic called Kreature Komforts. I have a hard sided cat carrier and some handwarmers for the car ride. I think I am going to bring a fecal sample too, just to get her all checked out while I'm there. Poppy is in good health besides a little constipation so this should just be standard. Any knowledge of this vet or any tips for the car ride and Poppy's stress level would be greatly appreciated! What was your first vet experience like?

Me getting my little boy there was pretty awful the first time. It was pouring like crazy I got wet to keep my little boy safe and warm. I had a rain coat over his carrier and a huge umbrella I honestly looked at reviews before I decided to select which vet I was going to. The vet himself was really nice and he is knowledgeable about hedgehogs. You can tell the vet isn't the one if they seem kind of clueless.

The reviews seemed good although there wasn't many. The website said that they treat pocket pets and small exotics. Hedgehogs weren't listed specifically but I assumed they were in the "small exotics" category. I don't think many people in Reno, Nevada own hedgies so it's difficult choosing which place to go to. Thank you for your response.

Did you ask about hedgehogs when you made the appointment? I did and made the app with that specific vet. I didn't like her and I'm not going back there, I'm making an appointment soon with a different one.

I filled out an online form but was planning on calling to check for hedgehog experience. Poppy doesn't need immediate medical attention though so I would be fine with rescheduling if a more experienced vet wasn't available. I think this little vet trip is more for me so I know where to go to if there was an emergency.

Update:
Poppy did great at the vet! Her appointment was this morning. I was very worried she would be too cold (of course it was snowing outside! ). She pooped and peed proudly on the vet's hand and decided to nibble on the vet's pants! Lol. The vet said if she continues to stay this healthy she may live well past 6! Very proud of my baby girl for being so brave when they took her temperature too! It required the nurse and vet to hold her down. Thank you for all of your advice. I will give Poppy a long cuddle session tonight with extra mealworms!

Poppy deserves it! My vet asked me to hold Squirtle to get him to open up xD Squirtle wouldn't open up to the vet (: It worked though! Glad everything worked out.
